Proximity to Home or Other Structures
- When your tree is too close serious issues will likely ensue.
- The tree roots can damage the foundation and damage underground pipes.
- Branches touching the siding and overhanging the roof can lead to mold damage causing deterioration of the outer protection of your home.
- Leaning branches can also break windows.
- The branches may become entangled in power lines which is hazardous.
A Hollow Trunk
- A hollow tree trunk compromises the structural integrity of a tree. The limbs are no longer properly supported and are unpredictable and hazardous to property and people in its vicinity.
Cracks in the Trunk
- The tree is compromised in structural integrity and safety. Cracks are a major indicator of the instability of a tree, caused by the improper closure of wounds or the splitting of weak branch unions. Cracks are very dangerous when in combination with internal decay of the tree.
Trunk Rot or Fungus Growing Near Base of Tree
- This can be an indication of an unhealthy interior of the tree causing decay and instability.
Disease or Insect Infestation
- Other trees and plants on the property are vulnerable to spread of disease and insect infestation.
- Warm, dry weather, drought, overcrowding and damage to stem or root are stressors on trees.
- Damage to stems creates entry points for pathogens and also reduces the ability of the tree to collect and transfer water, stressing the tree and making it more vulnerable to diseases and infestation from insects.
